Langtang Gosainkund Helambu Trek Overview

Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu Trek is combination of three popular trekking destinations of Langtang region which is of altogether 18 days program. This unique trek to Langtang valley, Gosaikunda lake, and Helambu offers; great view of the Himalayan peaks, exposure to Tamang and Sherpa ethnic cultural heritages, alpine region’s lifestyle, and unparallel adventure experiences.

This Trek starts with a drive to Syabru Bensi passing historic towns like Trishuli, Betrawati, and Syabrubensi. You explore the Langtang village – the most severely damaged village from the Gorkha Earthquake of 2015 – and Langtang valley. After exploration of Langtang valley, you return through the same trail for two days and then off to Gosainkund Lake – a prominent alpine freshwater lake which is taken as holy lake for Hindus and each year thousands of devotees trek to take bath in this Lake believing that a dip into this lake will washes away their sins. The lake is situated at an altitude of 4,380 m/ 14,370 ft above sea level. You cross over high Himalayan pass at 4,610 m/ 15124ft namely Laurebina La and reach another sacred region of Helambu.

Our another trekking program in the region called Ganja La pass trek offers similar experiences and exposure in Langtang valley and Helambu region less Gosainkund Lake, but is more hazardous than this one. So, for those who seek moderate trekking experience in the region, this is ideal one for you.

The trek offers splendid and spellbound view of the peaks including Langtang Lirung 7,234 m/ 23,734 ft, Langtang Ri 7,205 m/ 23,638 ft, Langsisa Peak 6,427 m/ 21,086 ft, Yala Peak 5,520 m/ 18,110 ft, Ganjala Peak, west of the Himal Chuli (7,893 m/ 25,896 ft), Manaslu (8,156 m/ 26,758 ft) and Ganesh Himal (7,406 m/ 24,298 ft) and ranges.

Arrival in Kathmandu. Meet with our friendly representative at the arrival terminal of only International airport. And, then you will be transferred to your hotel. You check-in at your Hotel and then after short rest you can go to explore market area of Thamel – where you can eat your supper, change money, buy some stuffs from supermarket, or buy trekking gears – if you need to do. Later we take you to our office for the trip briefing. Overnight at your hotel. Delay of any kind will postpone the events for next day according to feasibility.

You start the day with delicious breakfast served at your Hotel. The sightseeing involves tour of two religious and cultural sites of Pashupatinath temple and Boudhanath stupa. Pashupatinath Temple: It is one of the most celebrated Hindu temples in South-Asia. The temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. This place is a UNESCO world cultural heritage site. The Bagmati river flowing besides the temple is religiously and spiritually significant for Hindus where cremation of dead body takes place. Pashupatinath temple holds the most of prominence during Shivaratri – Shiva’s birthday and thousands of pilgrims gather in the night to celebrate the day. Boudhanath Stupa: It is one of the biggest Stupas in terms of size and height in Nepal and located in east of Kathmandu in the ancient trade route between India-Nepal and Tibet.

The site is peaceful and culturally filled with intermixed influence of Tibetan and Sherpa roots. Stupa built in the trading route between Kathmandu and Tibet has four pairs of eyes directed towards all four directions. It is believed to be influenced by Mahayana Buddhist philosophy. After short tour of city we return to hotel and prepare for the trek. Overnight will be spent at hotel.

You drive quite long today in the mountainous landscape – but pleasant indeed – in which you can enjoy magnificent view of the Himalayan peaks, beautiful river valley, terraced farming field, small dotted settlements and villages all awe-inspiring. You drive through historic town of Betrawati – where Nepal and Tibet under Qing Dynasty signed a treaty in 1792 to settle the Sino-Gorkha war. Once you reach Syabrubesi, you can explore the town, that provides with interesting fusion of modernity and village life. You spend the night at local lodge.

You start your day with crossing the river Bhote Koshi, and again Langtang Khola. The trail ascends all the time along the Langtang Khola Gorge. You enjoy your lunch in a small place called Bamboo and start to walk steep uphill of about two hours to reach Lama Hotel – your night stop. The altitude is manageable and attainable on this day. Overnight at local lodge.

After breakfast you walk through the beautiful forest section towards the Langtang valley. You gain elevation slowly and that can make it harder than previous day. The second part of the trek after lunch might be tougher depending on your physical ability. Langtang village was the most severely hit and destroyed due to Gorkha Earthquake in April 2015 – that approximately claimed more than 300 lives including dozens of foreigners and their crew members. Life here begins with hope and aspiration and new lodges are built now for your accommodation. Overnight stay at the lodge.

You head to open and incredible Langtang valley today. As you start walking and climb a small hillock near the village, you walk past one of the longest Mani walls of the world. The trail is equipped with beautiful mountain surrounding and cultural and spiritual richness. The trail that winds up and up in the barren landscape tests your endurance. You reach to Kyanjin Gompa – wide and open pastureland where Buddhist monastery is located and now developed with tourist facilities – by lunch. Early morning you start to climb to Kyanjing ri to achieve the highest elevation of your trek. Until the river bed near Syabru Bensi, the trail is same. From here, you take the upper fork to reach Syabru Village or called Thulo Syabru. You will enjoy the flora and fauna of the trail today more than previous day as you are descending today. Syabru village is quite a big settlement of Tamang people – located in the ridge with beautiful view of the terraced field below, jungle above, and beautiful mountains in front. Enjoy your evening and the night stay here in the lodge.

Tiday  You are walking steep uphill at first for good hour in the forest, and walking in the gentler section at the end you reach Sing Gumba or known as Chandanbari as well. After breakfast at Sing Gompa, begin a steady uphill trek through rhododendron and pine forests. The trail gradually climbs above the tree line, offering increasingly impressive views of the Langtang Himalaya, Ganesh Himal, and surrounding peaks. Along the way, pass through small grazing areas and traditional yak pastures. As you approach Lauribina, the landscape becomes more open and alpine, providing spectacular mountain panoramas and beautiful sunset views. Overnight at a local lodge in Lauribina.

After breakfast, continue trekking uphill along a scenic alpine trail toward the sacred lakes of Gosaikunda. The route gains approximately 470 m (1,542 ft) in elevation and offers magnificent views of the Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and surrounding snow-capped peaks. Along the way, pass several small glacial lakes and rugged high-mountain landscapes before reaching the famous Gosaikunda Lake. One of Nepal’s most important pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists, Gosaikunda provides a spectacular setting surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery. After an early breakfast, begin the challenging trek from Gosaikunda and ascend to Lauribina Pass (4,610 m / 15,125 ft), the highest point of the trek. After crossing the pass, descend through rugged mountain terrain, alpine meadows, and rhododendron forests. You will walk through the narrow lanes of the ancient Kathmandu – the center of power – that includes markets of Ason, Glass beads market at Indrachowk, oldest supermarket at New Road, Kilagal, and Hidden Stupas inside the family courtyard. Visit of Kathmandu Durbar Square – the administrative quarter of Malla Kings (fourteenth to eighteenth century), and Shah Kings who ruled Nepal from 1768 until 2008. The most unique experience in the square is the visit to the temple of the living goddess “Kumari”. After the tour, return back to your Hotel. Day 4 : Trek Syabrubensi - Lama Hotel (2,560 m/ 8,399 ft) – 6 hrs walk

Duration: 12 + 4 = 16 Days Accomodation: Lodge

You start your day with crossing the river Bhote Koshi, and again Langtang Khola. The trail ascends all the time along the Langtang Khola Gorge. You enjoy your lunch in a small place called Bamboo and start to walk steep uphill of about two hours to reach Lama Hotel – your night stop. The altitude is manageable and attainable on this day. Overnight at local lodge.

Day 5 : Trek Lama Hotel – Langtang Valley (3,455 m/11,335 ft ) - 5 hrs walk

Duration: 12 + 4 = 16 Days Accomodation: Lodge

After breakfast you walk through the beautiful forest section towards the Langtang valley. You gain elevation slowly and that can make it harder than previous day. The second part of the trek after lunch might be tougher depending on your physical ability. Langtang village was the most severely hit and destroyed due to Gorkha Earthquake in April 2015 – that approximately claimed more than 300 lives including dozens of foreigners and their crew members. Life here begins with hope and aspiration and new lodges are built now for your accommodation. Overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 6 : Trek Langtang Village – Kyanjing Gompa (3,870 m/ 12,697 ft) - 3.30 hrs walk

Duration: 12 + 4 = 16 Days Accomodation: Lodge

You head to open and incredible Langtang valley today. As you start walking and climb a small hillock near the village, you walk past one of the longest Mani walls of the world. The trail is equipped with beautiful mountain surrounding and cultural and spiritual richness. The trail that winds up and up in the barren landscape tests your endurance. You reach to Kyanjin Gompa – wide and open pastureland where Buddhist monastery is located and now developed with tourist facilities – by lunch. Enjoy the lunch and you have a half-day to explore around or relax. Overnight local lodge.

Day 7 : Climb Kyanjing RI ( 4240m/13910ft.) to View the Mountain - Trek back to Lama Hotel: 7 hrs

Duration: 12 + 4 = 16 Days Accomodation: Lodge

Early morning you start to climb to Kyanjing ri to achieve the highest elevation of your trek. You reach there for sunrise with view of the mountains surrounding from this peak is magnificent. peaks Langtang Lirung 7,234 m/ 23,734 ft., Langtang Ri 7,205 m/ 23,638 ft., Langsisa Peak 6,427 m/ 21,086 ft., Yala Peak 5,520 m/ 18,110 ft., Ganjala Peak, Ganja La pass and so on. After enjoy the view you back to Kyamjing Gumpa for breakfast and trek back to Lama hote same way as before.

Day 8 : Trek to Syabru Village (Thulo Syabru) (2,200 m/ 7,218 ft) – 6 hrs walk

Duration: 12 + 4 = 16 Days Accomodation: Lodge

Until the river bed near Syabru Bensi, the trail is same. From here, you take the upper fork to reach Syabru Village or called Thulo Syabru. You will enjoy the flora and fauna of the trail today more than previous day as you are descending today. Syabru village is quite a big settlement of Tamang people – located in the ridge with beautiful view of the terraced field below, jungle above, and beautiful mountains in front. Enjoy your evening and the night stay here in the lodge.

Day 9 : Trek from Sybro gau - Chandanbari/Sing Gomba (3,350 m/ 10,990 ft ) 4-5 hrs walk

Tiday  You are walking steep uphill at first for good hour in the forest, and walking in the gentler section at the end you reach Sing Gumba or known as Chandanbari as well. On your way up you can view the peaks from Langtang Himal, Ganesh Humal, Tibetan mountains. There is a another cheese factory here and a Buddhist monastery as well if you want to explore.  Also chance to see redpanda today.Enjoy your rest of the day, and Overnight at the local lodge.

Day 10 : Trek from Sing Gompa (Chandanbari) to Lauribina ( 3,910 m / 12,828 ft ) walking 4 hours

Duration: 12 + 4 = 16 Days Accomodation: Lodge

After breakfast at Sing Gompa, begin a steady uphill trek through rhododendron and pine forests. The trail gradually climbs above the tree line, offering increasingly impressive views of the Langtang Himalaya, Ganesh Himal, and surrounding peaks. Along the way, pass through small grazing areas and traditional yak pastures. As you approach Lauribina, the landscape becomes more open and alpine, providing spectacular mountain panoramas and beautiful sunset views. Overnight at a local lodge in Lauribina.

Day 11 : Trek from Lauribina (3,910 m / 12,828 ft) to Gosaikunda (4,380 m / 14,370 ft) 3.5  hrs

Duration: 12 + 4 = 16 Days Accomodation: Lodge

 

After breakfast, continue trekking uphill along a scenic alpine trail toward the sacred lakes of Gosaikunda. The route gains approximately 470 m (1,542 ft) in elevation and offers magnificent views of the Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and surrounding snow-capped peaks. Along the way, pass several small glacial lakes and rugged high-mountain landscapes before reaching the famous Gosaikunda Lake. One of Nepal’s most important pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists, Gosaikunda provides a spectacular setting surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery. Day 12 : Trek from Gosaikunda (4,380 m / 14,370 ft) to Ghopte (3,440 m / 11,286 ft) via Lauribina Pass (4,610 m / 15,125 ft) – 14 km, 7–9 hrs

Duration: 12 + 4 = 16 Days Accomodation: Lodge

After an early breakfast, begin the challenging trek from Gosaikunda and ascend to Lauribina Pass (4,610 m / 15,125 ft), the highest point of the trek. The trail passes several sacred alpine lakes and offers spectacular views of the Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Jugal Himal, and surrounding snow-capped peaks. After crossing the pass, descend through rugged mountain terrain, alpine meadows, and rhododendron forests. The trail continues through remote highland landscapes before reaching the small settlement of Ghopte (3,440 m / 11,286 ft). Overnight at a local lodge in Ghope.

Day 13 : Trek from Ghopte (3,440 m / 11,286 ft) to Kutumsang (2,470 m / 8,104 ft) via Tharepati (3,690 m / 12,106 ft) 6 hrs walk

After breakfast, follow the scenic Helambu trail, ascending gradually to Tharepati (3,690 m / 12,106 ft), a beautiful ridge offering panoramic views of the Langtang and Jugal Himal ranges. From Tharepati, descend through dense rhododendron and pine forests, passing small settlements and traditional farmlands. The trail continues through peaceful mountain landscapes before reaching the beautiful  village of Kutumsang (2,470 m / 8,104 ft) Overnight at a local lodge.

Day 14 : Drive from Kutumsang (2,470 m / 8,104 ft) to Kathmandu (1,300 m / 4,593 ft) – Approx 6 hrs

Duration: 12 + 4 = 16 Days Accomodation: Hotel

After breakfast, begin the scenic drive from Kutumsang to Kathmandu via Melamchi and the foothills of the Helambu region. The journey passes through traditional villages, terraced farmlands, lush hillsides, and river valleys, offering a glimpse into rural life in Nepal. As you descend toward the Kathmandu Valley, enjoy views of the surrounding countryside before arriving in the capital city. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 15 : Cultural Tour of Kathmandu City / 4 hrs

Duration: 12 + 4 = 16 Days Accomodation: Hotel

After breakfast at your Hotel, we take you to the mysterious Kathmandu city tour. This historical, cultural and spiritual city unveils the social and historical mysteries to visitors. You will walk through the narrow lanes of the ancient Kathmandu – the center of power – that includes markets of Ason, Glass beads market at Indrachowk, oldest supermarket at New Road, Kilagal, and Hidden Stupas inside the family courtyard. Visit of Kathmandu Durbar Square – the administrative quarter of Malla Kings (fourteenth to eighteenth century), and Shah Kings who ruled Nepal from 1768 until 2008. The most unique experience in the square is the visit to the temple of the living goddess “Kumari”. After the tour, return back to your Hotel. If you are staying in Thamel, you can hang around this bustling tourist market and enjoy shopping. Overnight in Hotel.

This list outlines the required things to bring during the trekking tours. There are various selections and brands that you can choose from as per your interest. All required trekking equipment can be bought or even hired easily at a reasonable price in Kathmandu.

1. Down sleeping bag (you can borrow it from us if required).

Our guide will carry a first-aid kit bag during the trek.  We still recommend that you bring your personal first aid kit as you feel it is necessary.

2. Ibuprofen for general aches and pains.

3. Burnt cream.

4. Immodium or Pepto Bismol capsules for upset stomachs and diarrhea.

5. Diamox (commonly prescribed as Acetazolamide). Please discuss this with us before starting to take this medicine.

6. Antibiotics.

7. Blister treatments such as moleskin, hand plants and-aids, some waterproof tape, anti-infection ointments, etc.

Miscellaneous

1. Passport and extra passport photos (2 copies).

2. Durable wallet or purse for travel documents, money and passports.
